Recently to: H.L Layer (On Morton Hellig and his Sensorama) They blew my mind one night (’68) in their Hillsborough mansion when guess who was invited to dinner: Morton Hellig with his "Sensorama" super duper environment sitting in the living room and I kid you not, it surprised the hell out of me. I was deep into my TELL Sensorium project at the time and the Werby's knew they had a killer dinner party to shock me with. I had a great time that night with Morton as you might imagine! I sat in his wild one seater "Sensorama" machine and took a (virtual reality) wild ride down some NY streets at blazing high speed on a motorcycle; sat in this crazy tactual vibrating chair (fully adjustable, fore, aft, up and down) with my hands gripping the equivalent of cycle handle bars--driving like a maniac, wind blowing at my face replete with the odor of onions then floral as I zipped past vendors selling flowers. It was an absolutely amazing experience because I was immersed in what was actually a dual track 180 degree peripheral 35mm stereoscopic parafoveal experience with binaural sound blasting through my ears, tearing through NY streets—my first time ever on a motorcycle! But the best was yet to come with the next experience that found me locked in a room alone with two absolutely beautiful belly dancers, doing their thing as they circled and gyrated around me! Hey, it was a wild night! You asked: yes, I know Morton. Sensorama was billed as: Three-D, peripheral, tactual, aromatic simulator and sold for $6,000.
